Double Square Gallery Invited to Participate in Tokyo Gendai 2026

Gallery News

Double Square Gallery, in collaboration with Taiwan's leading contemporary art spaces Chi-Wen Gallery and Project Fulfill Art Space, is proud to present the forward-looking video art exhibition "Art Intelligence." The collaborative presentation has been invited to participate in Tokyo Gendai 2026, taking place from September 11 to September 13, 2026, at PACIFICO Yokohama in Japan. This year's fair features the Tane (Seed) special sector, curated by Fair Director Eri Takane.
Bringing together prominent and established Taiwanese artists represented by the three galleries, the exhibition creates a dynamic dialogue between brand-new works and classic masterpieces, offering a comprehensive view of the vibrant energy and historical trajectory of Taiwanese video art.

The exhibition is themed "Art Intelligence," cleverly juxtaposing "Artificial Intelligence" with "Art Intelligence" to establish a dialogue. It contrasts technology-driven, cold algorithmic data systems with the alternative core wisdom refined by artists through the body, cultural practice, and sensory experience. In spaces untouched by digital floods and algorithms, "Art Intelligence" gently pries open a crack in the highly smoothed-out contemporary landscape. It recalls the complex layers of human experience and captures through art's unique sensitivity, the subtle perceptions and emotional textures submerged beneath data logic.
The exhibition proudly presents an internationally recognized lineup of Taiwanese artists: Tsui Kuang-Yu, Yu Cheng-Ta (FAMEME), and ZHANG XU Zhan. The participating artists skillfully blend multiple cross-medium approaches—including action video, papier-mâché, stop-motion animation, performance art, virtual reality (VR), and AI algorithms—offering alternative ways of engaging with the world. Their works precisely point to those ongoing, unquantifiable lived experiences that exist beyond standardized answers, re-manifesting the authentic senses and subjectivity diluted by algorithms.

As vital driving forces behind the globalization of Taiwan's contemporary art scene, Double Square Gallery, Chi-Wen Gallery, and Project Fulfill Art Space have always upheld rigorous academic curatorial standards and sustainable promotion frameworks. Through a highly distilled curatorial vision and a robust transnational dialogue, the tripartite collaboration seeks to showcase the profound dimensions and global resonance of contemporary Taiwanese video art to the international art community.
