About Xiao Xiong Zhang (張曉雄)

Born in Cambodia in 1958, he moved to China at the end of 1971. He graduated from the Department of History at Jinan University in Guangzhou in 1982. In 1983, he emigrated to Australia and completed his studies at the Adelaide Centre for Performing Arts in 1985. He served as a main dancer at the Australian National Dance Theatre and was recognized as the Best Male Dancer and Best Choreography by The Advertiser. He was also included as a dancer, choreographer, and photographer in the Who's Who of Asian Australians in 1992. In December 1996, he relocated to Taipei and has since been teaching at Taipei National University of the Arts.

His body of work is extensive, and he has mentored countless students who are now part of leading international dance troupe. His unique aesthetic and training system, which blends traditional Eastern physical rhythms with contemporary Western concepts, have significantly influenced contemporary dance in Australia and Chinese-speaking regions. He has taught at institutions such as the Australian National Dance Theatre, Cloud Gate, Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Company, Hong Kong Dance Company, Guangdong Modern Dance Company, Beijing Modern Dance Company, BeijingDance/LDTX, as well as the Adelaide Centre for Performing Arts, University of Adelaide Dance Department, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, Beijing Dance Academy, Beijing Normal University, Shanghai Theatre Academy School of Dance, and Daqing Academy of Arts, among others.
