About Huang Chih-Cheng (黃至正)

Huang Chih-Cheng (b. 1988) was born in Miaoli, Taiwan. He holds an MFA from Tunghai University, and has devoted his entire time to artistic creation since 2015. He has been selected into Art Taipei’s “Made In Taiwan” by the Ministry of Culture, and is the recipient of the First Prize at Next Art Tainan (2015). He participated in the “Taiwan Contemporary Artists Overseas Visit Program” of 2016 and 2019, and was selected into the “Taiwan Contemporary Artists Publishing Project” of 2021, both by the Tianmei Art Foundation. Huang’s works are included in the collections of the Tainan Art Museum and the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA). He has been featured in multiple exhibitions in Taiwan an abroad, including FINE ART / UNIVERSITY SELECTION (2015) at the Tsukuba Museum of Art in Tsukuba, Japan; Dreams, Habitations – Young Artist Collection Exhibition (2015) and Flowers of Immense Charm—A Masterpiece Exhibition by Four Major Museums (2018), both at the NTMoFA respectively; and Unjust Deadline — Postwar Journalists (2019), a special exhibition in honor of Freedom of Speech Day at the National Human Rights Museum. In 2021, he was invited to create installations for Reading Sexualities—The Many Faces of Gendered Literature in Taiwan at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature.

 

Fascinated with the solidity and frailty of metal leaf, Chih-Cheng's art centers upon issues of sensation of time and life to death. He focus on the factors of phenomenon, questioning the reality of contemporary society through his own individual distinctiveness. He believes boundaries don’t really exist between everything, only what matters is how you look it. As an artist, he implies different formation of the world.
