About Lee Chi-Hsiang (李吉祥)

Lee Chi-Hsiang, b. 1983 in Nantou, Taiwan. Graduated from Taipei National University of the Arts Masters Program in 2010. It was in his years during undergrad when Lee developed his art with realism as his main focus. Stained glass windows; which is a common element in 1960s Taiwanese residencies, have been replaced by resistant glass windows through the passage of time. Lee is very much intrigued by the visual dynamics created by stained glass windows, opposed to the various developments within the field of digital media and the highly defined images that we are used to see in our day and age, which Lee feels has changed our habits of visual analyzation. The visual outcomes of stain glass windows varies by its patterns and surroundings, which generates narratives beyond a two-dimensional image, presents an entrance to objectify one’s own perspective into accordance. By Lee’s exceeding use of oil paint, the artist is able to capture eventful contents through the lens of stained glass windows.
